Each room is hand painted by local artists who display nature scenes of each national park of Costa Rica on the walls. This hotel offers one of the best views of jungle, mountains, and the ocean that you can find anywhere. There is even 75 acres of private park and 10 kilometers of nature trails on the hotel’s premises that will take you to the highest point of this area where you can see all the way to the Nicoya Peninsula. On the hike to the observation tower, you will see an array of lush green plants (including Richard's bamboo),and a natural waterfall where you can soak in a cool pool of clear water.

Richard Lemire, as mentioned earlier, is the owner of Hotel California and an avid bamboo lover. Besides his work in the field, he has creatively built bamboo cabins on the hotel property. These rustic cabins are simple, yet charming at the same time. The walls are made of bamboo slats with an overlay of cement which is painted bright colors to give a unique look. The bamboo benches on each porch and the palm leave roofs remind you that your in the tropics. Inside, you will find bamboo trim on the beds, end tables, and in the pretty tiled bathroom. Each bed is covered with a sheer net which gives adds to the coziness of these special "cabinas".
